As the name suggests, Bar am Wasser is located on Lake Zurich, offering some beautiful views. This all day venue is light and airy, with an upmarket, timeless feel – ideal for coffee during the day, or any time for its fine assortment of bar snacks, everything from a charcuterie platter to Angus steak tartare. But it’s the drinks that really draw the crowds here, starting with the beautifully-lit, two-storey display of bottles behind the bar, and leading to the innovative selection of multi-course cocktail menus. Acclaimed bartender Dirk Hany, in keeping with his belief that good cocktails can fill an evening much like food can, has created two menus, No & Low Volume and High Volume, each with a choice of three or five courses, and each leading from aperitif through to mains and digestif. The cocktails themselves are inventive and contemporary – take the High Volume aperitif Hakuna Tomata, for example, with bourbon, tomato, dry curacao and vermouth.
