Inspired by old silent movies, Kaohsiung’s Voice-Over is an oasis of calm with wonderful drinks. This vintage-styled cocktail bar is cosy and warmly lit, set within a former clinic that in turn had repurposed a decades-old house. Every element is carefully curated here, from the design details to the music – provided by vintage vinyl records – but this is perhaps most evident when it comes to the cocktails. One such drink is made with fermented pineapple, lifted with green pepper and eucalyptus and finished with an extract of black tea, maple leaf and orange peel. This is served with a branded Voice-Over can of pineapples. There’s an excellent wine list, which changes seasonally, and a perfectly-pitched menu of bar food on offer too.
