Tei by Obond

Taipei, Taiwan

Behind the beautiful wooden doors that lead to Tei by Obond you’ll find a Taiwanese tea specialist, and a whole lot more. Initially you’ll encounter the tea room, where the country’s teas are presented in a variety of ways – fermented, carbonated or distilled. Beyond this, head to the hidden bar area for a cocktail experience styled around traditional tea ceremonies. The drinks here make the most of what Taiwan has to offer, with ingredients sourced from around the country, and drawing on elements from the world of wine for inspiration. The bar’s No.17 Ruby Black Tea, for example, is styled on Shiraz, using apple brandy, an Italian vermouth infused with coffee and hibiscus from Taiwan’s Taitung region. Before you’re finished enjoying this, a mint mist will be sprayed on the glass to further develop its aroma. The bar itself is dark, elegant and dimly lit, with clean lines and plenty of wood – the ideal setting to meditate on the cocktails and appreciate the terroir of Taiwan.
