Aheste

Istanbul, Turkey

Turkish, Ottoman and Middle Eastern influences meet crowd-pleasing contemporary élan at Beyoğlu’s Aheste (Persian for ‘slowly’), where the talented Sara Tabrizi runs the kitchen. A good-value, meze-led menu, informal atmosphere and laid-back service draw a hip crowd. Floors are tiled, walls feature honey-coloured exposed bricks and tables are dressed simply with white tablecloths. A generous tasting menu offers a good range of hot and cold sharing plates – Cretan mash with charred peppers and blueberries; pan-fried veal liver with sumac – and the wine list, though small, is strong.
