- No.48 The World's 50 Best Bars 2019
Known for its opulent interiors, bay windows and signature purple leather chairs, the look of the Langham Hotel’s flagship cocktail lounge hasn’t changed since it won The World's Best Bar award for four consecutive years from 2012. However, with the award-winning team behind the bar departing in 2016 the Artesian needed a refresh. After also housing Remy Savage of Little Red Door in Paris before departing in 2019, head bartender Giulia Cuccurullo took the reins to reinvent the London cocktail institution. Its current menu, Duality, places balance at the heart of its cocktail offering. Choosing to embrace both the hotel's renowned past and its vision of the future, each page on the menu houses two cocktails centred around a common element, expressed in two opposed ways. Where 'Good & Evil' expresses the complexities of a passionfruit, 'Right & Wrong' navigates the humble mango, using both flavour and flesh to create its juxtaposed drinks, supercharged by the likes of cognac and maple verjus. Its new food menu launched in collaboration with Angelo Sat of Humble Chicken in Soho – think buttermilk chicken karaage with spicy miso mayo and katsu curry Scotch eggs – is a collection of ideal bar snacks designed to bolster its extensive drinks offering.
