Dorian
London, UK
Chris D’Sylva of The Notting Hill Fish Shop and Supermarket of Dreams has joined forces with chef Max Coen for his third venture, Dorian, which sits just off Portobello Road. Coen worked at restaurants including Sweden’s Frantzén, London’s Kitchen Table and in the Gordon Ramsay Group before turning his experience into his interpretation of an everyday bistro. Main courses are generous sharing plates and showcase the best and most seasonal local produce Coen can get his hands on: think Scottish grouse, malt peppercorn sauce and black fig, or Lake District venison, curried aubergine and smoked bone marrow. But it’s the one-bite potato rosti that has become the signature, a grated, baked and pressed potato, deep fried and served with an ever-changing topping. Burgundy wines are at the heart of the mostly European wine list, and although it’s not exclusively organic or biodynamic, Coen favours producers who share his sustainable values. For an immersive experience, book tables 105 and 106 at the counter to watch the team in action, or for more intimacy, ask for table 224 for a cosy spot with a view onto the kitchen and bustling dining room.
