Homeboy Bar

London, UK

Don’t expect a sea of shamrocks lining the path to this modern Irish bar on the rough-around-the-edges side of Islington. With modern speakeasy stylings – all raw brick, moody hues and a simple neon sign – and proper pub grub, Homeboy’s a cosy draw for those looking to celebrate the produce of the Emerald Isle. At the helm are Dubliners Ciarán Smith and Aaron Wall, who come by way of The Dorchester and East London’s Callooh Callay (No.48 in The World’s Best Bars 2016). As you’d imagine, Irish whiskey is the backbone to the drinks offering, supported by a cast of contemporary Irish-leaning cocktails that reimagine the classic canon (see their apple-forward whiskey smash). Modern mixology technique is a given, and expect homemade Irish coffee bitters to feature heavily. For purists, the house Sazerac stirred with Michter’s Rye Whiskey is on hand, and there’s always a perfectly kept pint of Guinness.
