Don’t be deceived by the diner-like frontage of Pearl Diver, this laid-back lounge in East Nashville is all about transporting you to tropical climes. Led by four local industry veterans, it started life in 2018. The concept is a sophisticated take on a tiki bar, encapsulated by the likes of seaweed-hued banquettes, palm wallpaper, nautical nods and a projector rolling old photos of Ernest Hemingway and surf films. Rums, tequilas and mezcals drive the menu, which undulates from the namesake Pearl Diver – a Polynesian pour from the Fifties here served with rum, honey butter, baking spices, vanilla and orange – to elevated caipirinhas and mojitos. Other signatures include Devil’s Flower – blanco tequila and chili liqueur balanced with cactus, kiwi and lime. Alongside, fried, salty world food is the order of the day: think Tijuana fries, Cubano sandwiches, yakitori and shrimp tacos.
