Rich Table functions as the ideal neighbourhood restaurant. Evan and Sarah Rich amassed decades of experience cooking in high-end establishments from New York to San Francisco, before opening this comfortably casual spot at the southern end of Hayes Valley. The menu is straightforward and unfussy, with à la carte options starting from small bar snacks to sharable main courses. As for ingredients, the mantra is "Go to the market, see what's good and cook it". One day it could be grilled pork collar accompanied by cherry sweet and sour, the next a ratatouille of eggplant, squash, heirloom tomatoes and lemon verbena. The dried porcini doughnuts with raclette are famous for a reason. Even the decor feels like home, all warm woods, soothing paintwork and local artwork on the walls.
