Dōgon
Washington, DC, US
- No.37 North America's 50 Best Restaurants 2025
As the Salamander hotel's flagship restaurant, Dōgon is chef Kwame Onwuachi's tribute to the flavours of the African diaspora. The sharing menu draws on his Nigerian, Jamaican, Trinidadian and Creole roots to elevate classics like jerk‑spiced proteins and chicken and rice. Dōgon's menu stands out in a world of fusion for its use of herbs, spices and global influences: chayote is paired with wagyu oxtails for a hearty braised main. Smaller plates include charbroiled oysters, hoe crab and Ben's Bowl, a crispy lamb, tamarind and chickpea curry inspired by DC institution Ben's Chili Bowl. Set to a soundtrack of '80s R&B classics, Dōgon matches its cooking with cocktails that bring out the best of liqueurs and mixers from Black-owned brands.
