Rōhen at The Arts Club

Dubai, United Arab Emirates

What do novelist Charles Dickens, musician Franz Liszt and artist Auguste Rodin have in common? They were all members of The Arts Club, which was founded in London in 1863 and recently opened up its first international outpost in Dubai. Conceptualised by Ajaz Sheikh and Chef Michael Hoepfl, Rōhen restaurant is the beating heart of the club. Menus are informed by the Nikkei concept – a fusion between the precision of Japanese techniques and Peru’s punchy flavours – as epitomised by dishes such as miso soup with palm hearts and freshly rolled sushi with spicy dipping sauce. Chef Michael Hoepfl and his team have a keen eye for design and presentation is exquisite throughout: think oysters in their shells perched on a bed of dried chillies and cradling pearls of pink pepper.
