Open from morning coffees all the way through to after-dinner drinks, Rio Café captures the crowds that flow to and from the quieter neighbourhood beach east of the city’s core. Globe-trotting flavours are baked into the menu DNA, from bao to miso-stuffed pasta, or figs with jamon, labneh, stracciatella, rocket and bourbon-honey vinaigrette. Chef collabs might dominate weekend brunch, keeping things fresh, but you could also settle in for a weekday lunch to pick over a bronzed Milanese cutlet with a zing of lemon, paired with a cocktail from the bar. After a day lazing on the sand and frolicking in the surf, there’s no sweeter end than a wobbly Rio-style dulce de leche flan, dolloped indulgently with a luscious crema.
