Anăn Saigon

Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

50Best Accolades
  • No.48 Asia's 50 Best Restaurants 2024

Its name translating as ‘eat, eat’, the Asia’s 50 Best-listed Anăn is located in Chợ Cũ, Ho Chi Minh’s oldest wet market. Dynamic, street food-inspired dishes come courtesy of Vietnamese-American banker turned chef Peter Cuong Franklin, whose resume includes stints at Caprice in Hong Kong, and the David Thompson-led Nahm in Bangkok. The venue also houses cocktail bar Nhau Nhau and noodle joint Pot Au Pho, which is apt considering that Franklin's birth mother – and early inspiration (before he was adopted as a refugee from the Vietnam war) – runs a traditional noodle shop in Dalat. The 13-course Anăn tasting menu is a great way to get a sense of the chef’s culinary mastery via flavour-packed small plates such as butter prawn noodles, pork skewers and crab rice, then retire to the rooftop bar to round things off with a chocolate marshmallow dessert and beautifully crafted cocktail, all served up with bird’s eye city views.
