Innovative Argentinian cuisine given star billing on the world stage

Chief reason to visit: A smart setting with an equally sophisticated tasting menu, Tegui has put contemporary Argentine cuisine on the map, with the restaurant, first making an appearance on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants list in 2017.

A few words on the chef: Having honed his skills in France, the US and Argentina, Germán Martitegui now takes pride in using local produce. Low key in person, Martitegui lets his food do the talking and was chosen by his peers in the region to win the Chefs’ Choice Award in 2017.

Typical dishes: Scallops, kefir cream and quinoa; goat’s cheese, kiwicha and cayote; long-finned tuna, egg yolk and breadcrumbs.

Before it all began: Although he has an international relations degree under his belt, the chef’s passion for cooking won through. In the early days, he worked with Argentine culinary legends, including pastry chef Beatriz Chomnalez and firebrand Francis Mallmann.

What’s the vibe? Street art adorns the façade; step through the discrete black door to unveil a stylish establishment with an open kitchen. Oenophiles will adore the wine cellar for its labels and aesthetics.

What else? Martitegui co-hosted Argentina’s edition of MasterChef, where he is known as ‘the mean guy’.
