Sesamo

On the Pass

Ricardo Barni

A tale of two cuisines: Globally renowned chef Massimiliano Alajmo brings the culinary delights of Italy to beguiling Marrakech with his restaurant, Sesamo. Both local ingredients and imported Italian delicacies are spun into gold on every plate within the kitchen, helmed by Riccardo Barni.

Where should I sit? Found within the chic Royal Mansour Marrakech hotel, Sesamo’s low-hanging lamps, velvet curtains and sleek white tablecloths create a glamourous yet comfortable atmosphere. Take a seat on the open-air patio and watch the sun set over the horizon for the ultimate dining experience.

On the menu: Chefs Alajmo and Barni bring authentic Venetian influences to the table, serving classics such as Majorelle cappuccino with squid ink and potato puree, Mariapia’s eggplant ‘parmigiana’ and pea and pistachio ravioli with cuttlefish ink and spider crab sauce. A favourite on the menu is the roasted lobster with lettuce millefeuille and apple and hemp sauce.

And for dessert? End the meal with a spritz of freshness and opt for the dessert named apriti Sesamo: a sphere of sesame and almond nougat filled with saffron, neroli and almond foam, served with a citrus passion fruit sauce.

A family dynasty:  Sesamo is part of the prestigious Alajmo group, run by brothers Massimiliano and Raffaele. This latest venue joins the ranks of restaurants of calibre, including The World’s 50 Best Restaurants regular Le Calandre in Rubano, Italy.
