Farm Africa is an innovative charity that improves lives across eastern Africa by driving agricultural and environmental change. Farm Africa helps farmers boost yields and gain access to markets, while protecting natural resources for generations to come.
Together with renowned chefs Joan Roca, Eneko Atxa and Gaggan Anand, Farm Africa is proud to have spearheaded the Chefs for Change movement, which unites the world’s best chefs and the world’s most remote rural communities in transforming lives through sustainable farming.
Chefs for Change follows the journeys of chefs as they travel out of the kitchen and onto farms in Africa, Asia and Latin America. The chefs share the stories of the small-scale producers they meet, who dedicate their lives to food production but whose potential is thwarted by poverty, environmental degradation and lack of access to markets.
To date, five leading chefs have visited agricultural development projects run by Farm Africa and American NGO TechnoServe.
Gaggan Anand, chef at Gaggan in Bangkok, Thailand, and Andoni Luis Aduriz, chef at Mugaritz in northern Spain, both travelled to Tanzania’s Babati District to meet rice farmers. Luke Dale Roberts, chef at The Test Kitchen in Cape Town, South Africa, journeyed to Kenya’s Kisumu District to meet fish farmers. Husband and wife Kyle and Katina Connaughton of SingleThread in Healdsburg, USA, went to Peru to meet coffee and cocoa farmers.
By raising funds for Farm Africa in their restaurants and raising awareness of the importance of sustainable agriculture, the Chefs for Change Ambassadors are taking action for global food security.
