ALEX ATALA - chicken party at midnight

Luciana Bianchi - 13/02/2011

Brazil is proud to be a country that enjoys both food and partying in equal measure. It is traditional to dine late in the evening, and Brazilians know how to enjoy life more than any other people in the world - Savoir-vivre is not limited to the weekend or holiday! The quintessential Brazilian chef, Alex Atala, became famous around the world with his restaurant D.O.M., ranking today in the 18thposition in The S. Pellegrino World's 50 Best Restaurants. He opened his second restaurant, Dalva & Dito, in 2009, also in Sao Paulo, a few yards from D.O.M., with a new and fresh concept - 'food of our grandmothers'. This is Brazilian comfort food, with a contemporary touch, using the best produce, and a great technique - many of the dishes are slow cooked at lower temperatures. At Dalva & Dito Atala presents heritage dishes that had begun to disappear from Brazilian tables. The menu is short, casual and original, as can be seen from this description:

To Nibble…

To Start...

From earth and air...

From the water...

To remind us of our Mum's, Nana's, Auntie's...

To make life sweeter...

It is a beautiful restaurant, with a unique atmosphere - a place to fall in love and to return.

If you happen to be in Sao Paulo, here is an insider tip: every Saturday after midnight, you can visit Dalva & Dito for a famous Brazilian Galinhada! A true Brazilian experience! An experience that I will explain in images, rather than words:

'Galinhada at Dalva & Dito - Every Saturday after Midnight!

29 Reais per head

Come to invade our kitchen!'

FULL HOUSE at midnight!

Brilliant and motivated staff, happy guests and many chefs at the delicious and fun 'Midnight Galinhada'

Brazilian chef Rogerio Maldonado, just back from Italy, enjoying the first 'Galinhada' at Dalva & Dito.

Chocolatier Dominique Persoone visiting Brazil and experiencing the Brazilian flavours.

This new idea of Alex Atala is so simple and so brilliant, that I ask myself:

"Why has nobody else ever thought of doing something like that before?"

Alex Atala and Gabriela Rodriguez from D.O.M. Group having dinner at 3am at Dalva & Dito!

In your next visit to Brazil, remember: Saturday Galinhada at Dalva & Dito, and experience Brazilian Comfort Food at midnight!

I did, and I loved it!!!
