Why is the list being released now?
After much consultation with the bar industry in Asia, it became very clear that the bars and bartenders wanted this announcement to go ahead. The virtual ceremony for Asia’s 50 Best Bars has been designed to recognise the bars and their teams’ hard work over the past year and is not intended as a ‘celebration’ in such difficult times. However, we very much hope that it will serve as a focal point for the community to come together and provide inspiration and motivation for the bars as they prepare to reopen and recover. There are already some promising business signs from across the continent as territories begin to relax restrictions and we hope that this list will provide the impetus and optimism to keep moving forward into a post-pandemic world.
What is a virtual announcement?
It’s an event that will recognise the very best of cocktail culture in Asia, just like Asia’s 50 Best Bars always has – albeit, this year, in a motion graphics format. It will follow the usual structure, with a countdown from No.50 to No.1, culminating in the reveal of The Best Bar in Asia 2020, sponsored by Perrier. The countdown will be interspersed with a series of special awards for bars and individuals, rewarding all facets of the hospitality industry, and virtual appearances by many of Asia’s most recognisable faces, as well as a few surprises along the way.
When will it happen?
The stream of the Asia’s 50 Best Bars 2020 announcement will start at 6.55pm Singapore time (11.55am BST) on Thursday 14th May (7.55pm JPN). The official ceremony will start very shortly after the hour.
How do I watch it?
Easy. It will be streamed simultaneously on The World's 50 Best Bars Facebook page, on our YouTube channel 50 Best Bars TV, as well as on Zoom.
