Disaronno Bar Tag – how the drinks world came together through cocktails to support the community

To dovetail with the 50 Best for Recovery initiative, world-renowned Italian liqueur Disaronno conceived a cocktail exchange programme where bartenders from across the globe shared recipes and ideas. Bar Tag saw 18 bars design a bespoke cocktail to serve to their guests, while the proceeds were donated into the 50 Best Recovery Fund. Check out the best-selling drinks and learn how to make them at home

When 50 Best announced in March 2020 that it would be pivoting its resources to support the hospitality community, its brand partners offered to help in any way that they could. They contributed to the Bid for Recovery auction to design once-in-a-lifetime experiences, as well as supporting the Home Comforts e-cookbook, Recovery Summit and myriad other fundraising enterprises that saw 50 Best distribute $1.4m to restaurants and bars all over the globe.

Some brands, however, wanted to do more. Disaronno and its global team took it upon themselves to create Bar Tag, where each of its partner bars were offered the opportunity to design a cocktail in support of 50 Best for Recovery and proceeds were donated into the Recovery Fund. Here are the top cocktails from some of the world’s best bartenders that you can mix up at home.

Bee’s Knees, Kyoto
Toru Ariyoshi

Silky Velvet

20ml Disaronno
40ml Cucumber-infused gin
30ml Italian yogurt
10ml Vanilla syrup
15ml Fresh lemon juice
30ml Egg white
Top with sparkling sake

1-4

Add the egg white, Disaronno and gin to a shaker (without ice) and shake for 20 seconds to activate the egg white. Then add the other ingredients with ice and hard shake for 30 seconds. Pour into a highball glass over fresh ice and top with the sake.

Salmon Guru, Madrid
Diego Cabrera

Silver and Gold

40ml Disaronno
10ml Mezcal
5ml Lime juice
5ml Sugar syrup
1 bar spoon truffle oil

2-4

With sweetness, earthy notes, bitterness and spice, this is a perfect late-evening serve. Simply add ice to a mixing glass, pour on all liquid ingredients and stir for 30 seconds to chill and dilute. Serve in a tall glass over crushed ice and garnish with seasonal berries.

Officina Milano, Milan
Giorgio Santambrogio

Officina Sour
50ml Disaronno
30ml Disaronno reduction
30ml Fresh lemon juice
25ml Egg white
7ml Sugar syrup

3-3

To make this sour, first reduce 200ml of Disaronno in a saucepan and leave to cool. To make the cocktail, add the egg white to a dry cocktail tin and shake to activate. Open the tin, add ice and pour the other ingredients on top. Hard shake for 30 seconds, then strain into a tumbler.

Bar Libre, Tokyo
Yuujirou Kiyosaki

Mr D

30ml Scotch whisky
20ml Disaronno
10ml Amaro
10ml Fresh lemon juice
10ml Honey
1 slice fresh ginger

4-3

This drink is deliciously herbal and fresh. First, add the ginger and honey to a mixing glass and muddle together. Then add ice, followed by the other ingredients. Stir thoroughly until chilled and strain into a tumbler. Garnish with lemon and a mint sprig.

Bulk, Milan
Ivan Patruno

Birdie
25ml Disaronno
20ml Gin
10ml Saline solution
140ml Lemon soda

5-1

Big on citrus, this slightly sweet and nutty highball is perfect for an afternoon cocktail. Add the Disaronno, gin and saline solution (50/50 mix of water and salt) to a mixing glass over ice and stir until chilled (30 seconds). Serve in a lowball glass and garnish with a thin lemon wedge.

Eau de Vie, Sydney
Danilo Miglio

Trip to Mexico
20ml Disaronno
20ml Tequila
20ml Mezcal
20ml Grapefruit juice
5ml Agave syrup

6-1

Easy to make and even easier to drink, simply add the equal volumes of the key ingredients to a mixing glass over ice and squeeze in the agave syrup (or honey, if you don’t have access to it). Stir for 30 seconds to chill and dilute, strain into a Nick and Nora glass and garnish with a sage or bay leaf.

Freni e Frizioni, Rome
Riccardo Smith

Red Scarf

30ml Disaronno
45ml Cherry cordial
120ml Ginger ale

7-1

Super simple with sweetness and effervescence, add the Disaronno and cherry cordial straight into a highball glass and stir over ice to combine. Top with ginger ale and garnish with a lemon slice.
