With bars closed and bartenders forced to showcase their skills behind closed doors, 50 Best is launching a campaign to home-school aspiring cocktail creators. #PassTheShaker will also introduce you to the initiatives and tools the bars are utilising to help keep them in business during the current crisis – which is hitting the hospitality sector particularly hard – so please do engage where you can. Put the ice on ice and ready your jigger, because #PassTheShaker begins this weekend
If there’s one thing that it seems as though everyone is learning to do at home, it’s making cocktails. Mixology masterclasses are rife on Instagram feeds from Buenos Aires to Brisbane as fledgling bartenders fill their newfound leisure time by attempting to recreate the drinks they would usually be enjoying in bars.
If your DIY version of a negroni doesn’t taste quite the same as the one in your favourite hostelry, do not fear: you’re not alone. Cocktails are being joyfully bastardised the world over and #PassTheShaker intends to help flatten the curve of poorly balanced serves.
Starting with New York’s Dante – winner of The World’s Best Bar Award 2019, sponsored by Perrier – a selection of The World’s 50 Best Bars will be passing the shaker between one another, showing you how to make their signature drinks. Some will be welcoming you into their homes, while others are offering you an exclusive one-on-one masterclass in their premises, where they are able to get behind their bars.
The bartenders will also be introducing you to the initiatives they are running to support their businesses. Be they in the form of delivery services or local charitable projects, check them out to ensure that the bar teams will be there to serve you your first drink when we are able to head out to enjoy ourselves again.
Prepare to make your home bar the envy of your followers. #PassTheShaker begins on the @50BestBars social channels this weekend.
