Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants is proud to recognise the winner of the first ever Lifetime Achievement Award sponsored by Johnnie Walker Blue Label - Paul Pairet. Chef Pairet’s pioneering influence on the culinary industry in Asia and his unique approach to the delivery of sophisticated, avant-garde cuisine have led to him being granted this prestigious industry recognition. The Lifetime Achievement Award goes to the individual who has made a contribution to the restaurant industry in Asia worthy of significant recognition. Nominations are made by the voting academy.

Chef Paul Pairet has worked throughout both Asia and Europe over nearly three decades, gathering influences and inspiration on his gastronomic journey. Now his own unique creative flair is in turn influencing chefs around the world. The French-born chef now oversees two very different but equally important restaurants in Shanghai with the VOL Group: the hugely successful haute bistro Mr & Mrs Bund and his brilliantly avant-garde new venture, Ultraviolet by Paul Pairet.

These follow his ground-breaking spell at Jade on 36, the flagship restaurant of the Shangri-La Hotel Pudong, which he elevated to one of the most feted gastro-destinations in China. “As a culinary visionary who has reinvented the social concept of food, it is a truly fitting honour to present Paul Pairet with Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants Lifetime Achievement Award. Throughout Paul’s career he has achieved the exceptional, perfectly balancing classic with cutting edge culinary techniques. He has continued to defy preconceived expectations, been unafraid to break away from culinary convention and has set the standard for a future generation of gastronomists. Johnnie Walker Blue label congratulate him on this ultimate accolade” says Johnnie Walker Blue Label.

The 48-year-old will receive the inaugural Lifetime Achievement Award, sponsored by Johnnie Walker Blue Label, at Asia’s 50 Best Restaurants gala event in February in Singapore. This award celebrates Chef Pairet’s accomplishments and recognises his talent, innovation and contribution to Asia’s restaurant industry.
