In partnership with Patina Maldives
Most people want a stay that feels special – unique, personal, attuned to their interests. Patina Maldives has nailed the brief, building a world that weaves together design, culture and wellbeing in a way that resonates deeply with its guests.
A little over two decades ago, there were only a handful of resorts to be found in the Maldives. Now, visitors can choose from almost 200 properties spread across more than 800 kilometres and a dozen atolls, catering to every taste and style imaginable. It's a head-spinning amount of choice, but for the luxury traveller who values time, exclusivity and originality, Patina Maldives, Fari Islands is one of the more irresistible options.
Set in a tranquil aquamarine lagoon, a 45-minute luxury speedboat journey from Velana International airport, this is an island for sybarites, with the kind of emphasis on design, culture, personalisation and wellbeing that's usually only found in the world's best private members' clubs. "Patina Maldives was created as a place where curiosity, creativity and connection come together naturally," says general manager Anthony Gill. "More than a resort, we wanted to cultivate a living community – one that evolves through meaningful collaborations, exceptional dining, transformative wellness and a dynamic cultural programme. It's this balance of thoughtful luxury, authenticity and continual discovery that gives Patina its distinctive members' club spirit."

Design-led living
Patina Maldives' architecture and interiors are the handywork of Brazilian hotshot Marcio Kogan, who is known for his unique take on tropical modernism and emphasis on sustainability (Kogan created the first building in Brazil to achieve Platinum status from the Green Building Council). Here, low-slung pavilions fashioned from tropical hardwoods and light-diffusing bamboo screens are fronted by breezy, open terraces, keeping guests perpetually connected to the beach and ocean. Sophisticated furnishings, including bespoke pieces from Bassam Fellows, Lin Brasil, Denon, Carlos Motta and Paola Lenti, invite guests to slow down, unwind and take in their otherworldly surroundings.
Then there's the art. Guests will find a gallery-worthy collection scattered around the island, encouraging a grown-up treasure hunt. Seek out mirrored monoliths by Chinese artist Hongjei Wang, tapestry by Japanese artist Hiroko Takeda and the showstopping Skyspace Amarta pavilion by Californian Light and Space legend James Turrell. The collection is complemented by The Patina Art Residency, an annual artists-in-residence programme run across the wider Patina brand, which celebrates artists whose work reflects a commitment to conservation and sustainability. It's just one of several creative residencies that take place at Patina Maldives, Fari Islands, alongside music programmes, wellness journeys and one-of-a-kind dining experiences throughout the year.

Culinary artistry
With 13 thoughtfully curated dining concepts and an emphasis on the freshest, most sustainable produce, Patina Maldives, Fari Islands offers the kind of elevated dining landscape that wouldn't seem out of place in New York, Paris or Hong Kong. Wake up to nutritious, carefree breakfasts by the beach. For lunch, flit between Southeast Asian food trucks and gelato vans at the Fari Marina Village (where you'll also find mooring for up to 18 superyachts, a water sports centre and a beach club). Dinner might take you to Patagonian open-grill steakhouse Brasa or to Helios for Aegean cuisine backed by a vivid Maldivian sunset. Elsewhere, there is Arabesque serving Lebanese food, elevated Italian restaurant Farine and the resort's latest culinary concept, Kandu.

"Kandu represents the next evolution of Patina's culinary journey," says Hussain Ahusan, Patina's Director of Food and Beverage. "While each of our restaurants offers a distinct identity, Kandu celebrates the Maldives through a contemporary lens, showcasing local ingredients, seasonal produce and refined techniques. It complements our diverse collection of dining experiences by adding a deeper sense of place, encouraging guests to explore the islands' culinary heritage while remaining true to Patina's spirit of innovation and discovery." The restaurant name comes from the Dhivehi word for the ocean channels that flow between coral atolls. Depending on what's been plucked by local fishermen fresh from the Indian Ocean that day, menus might include contemporary plates of yellowfin tuna kandu kukulhu or skipjack doused in chilli and lime.

In the flow
Set in the peaceful heart of the island, Flow Spa is a beautiful light-filled space featuring yoga studios, hydrotherapy facilities, a watsu pool [a hydrotherapy pool where trained practitioners float, rock and gently stretch your body] and seven architectural treatment suites wrapped in swaying pampas grass. "Flow is the expression of our wellbeing philosophy and the experiences we create around it. It begins the moment you arrive as an invitation to immerse in stillness, challenge the body, and engage the mind," says Director of Spa and Wellness Faraaz Tanveer.
Blending modern technology with movement, mindfulness and traditional healing practices, Flow supports the human journey towards connection – with self, with others, nature and the wider world. High-tech therapies such as sensory deprivation flotation pods and Oskia biotechnology facials are offered alongside deep-reaching wellness rituals, which might include Tibetan singing bowls, acupuncture or a balletic, meditative immersion in the watsu pool in the healing hands of a Balinese shaman.

"Flow is shaped by a rotating schedule of visiting practitioners, bringing global wellness expertise to our guests through exclusive treatments and sessions," adds
Tanveer, referring to the somatic bodywork practitioners, naturopaths, martial arts experts, football coaches, tennis pros and Ayurvedic doctors who regularly pass through the island on limited-time residencies. "This evolving programme introduces new disciplines while fostering a community of like-minded individuals where guests return to engage, learn and evolve their wellbeing practice over time."

Invitation only
It's Patina's meticulously curated partnerships with experts in their fields – artists, musicians, mixologists, chefs, athletes, health and wellness gurus – that bring depth, dynamism and a true sense of community to the island. Now in its second year, the Fari Island Festival is the pinnacle of the annual calendar. Set across Patina Maldives, this year's exclusive three-day festival will be held on 13-15 August, featuring guest turns from Oscar-nominated actor Rosamund Pike, French musician and composer Sébastien Tellier, Indian wellness icon Milind Soman, and award-winning producer DJ FS Green, among a host of other luminaries.
More than a tropical island idyll (with an impressive 4:1 staff to guest ratio), Patina Maldives is a community of like-minded individuals fuelled by a perpetual flow of inspiration.
