Bar 878

Buenos Aires, Argentina

Bar 878 has been around for more than two decades, but this laid-back hideaway still feels fresh as a daisy. Once a straight-up speakeasy, operations are now strictly kosher although the discreet entrance means you need to be damn sure where you're heading. Drinks are simple but effective with many of them featuring the bar's own house-made spirits – including gin, vodka, whisky and bitters - and there's a stellar list of Argentinian wines, to boot. A simple bar food menu reflects a distinct porteño identity, to stand up to cocktails such as the signature rum-based, cigar-infused Segurola y Habana, which is inspired by football icon Diego Maradona. It's also worth calling in for happy hour, which runs from 7-9pm on weeknights when you can bag two cocktails for around $5.
