Jeow

Melbourne, Australia

Laotian food doesn't really get enough attention, especially given the nation's five borders with China, Myanmar, Thailand, Vietnam and Cambodia, where these myriad influences mix to create a genuinely compelling style of cuisine. Jeow provides the perfect entry point into the food of Laos, serving it without ceremony in a relaxed environment matched with a fantastic list of natural wines. It's overseen by acclaimed chef Thi Le, whose much-missed Vietnamese restaurant Anchovy is survived by Ca Com Banh Mi Bar and, of course, by Jeow. This bustling neighbourhood venue also offers weekly Sunday Feasts where guests can get stuck into dishes such as Pacific oysters with a garlic and lemongrass vinaigrette or a snack of steamed tapioca pearls, jerusalem artichoke, cashews and salted turnip plus a pigs head taro pastry with chilli sauce.
