France-Soir

Melbourne, Australia

France-Soir has been a staple of the Melbourne dining scene since 1986, serving the great and good on their trips to the city, from Mick Jagger to Bruce Springsteen. Immediately identifiable by its bright blue neon sign, there's a charming timelessness about this French bistro that serves solid versions of everybody's favourite Gallic dishes. We're talking oysters with mignonette, steak tartare and even the lesser-spotted îsles flotanttes giving a touch of French flair to the South Yarra neighbourhood. Owner Jean-Paul Prunetti has been in hospitality since he was 14 years old and his substantial experience of classic Parisian brasseries is immediately evident in everything from the service to the spectacular 4,500-bin wine list, with over 30 available by the glass. Worth noting is that the restaurant offers BYOB with no corkage charge at lunchtime from Monday to Thursday.
