Porcine
Sydney, Australia
The postcode may be Paddington but everything else says Paris at this quaint neighbourhood bistro, which will make you feel like you’ve been transported to the Marais. From the red and white plates and water tumblers to the well-worn wooden tables and chalkboard menus hanging on burgundy-hued walls, it's a celebration of trad Gallic style – extending to the menu, which takes an ‘if it ain’t broke’ approach to the greatest hits. Paté en croute served by the slab joins vol au vent shellfish with leeks and vermouth, and veal Rossini with sweetbreads, foie gras and truffle. The piece de la resistance? A theatrical canard a la presse, served tableside. It needs to be pre-ordered and is only served at set times, which you might say makes it even more desirable.
