Masso has been a staple of Bahrain’s restaurant scene since it opened in 2011. Under chef Steeven Gilles, Masso delivers a taste of the sun-soaked Mediterranean to Bahrain, with a particular penchant for Italian cuisine. Pizza, pasta, parmigiana et al – Masso’s main offering spans the whole Italian peninsula. Pasta dishes come in a multitude of varieties and sauces, from luxurious truffle rigatoni to time-honoured conchiglie bolognese. Its meat and fish options draw inspiration from the wider Mediterranean, including Spanish black tiger prawns on a baked saffron risotto, and the fish of the day a la Meuniere, swimming in a rich emulsion of brown butter, capers and charred lemon. Better yet, the restaurant uses produce harvested from its own organic vegetable garden, one of the only in the region to do so. Its brunch menu is also not to be missed, where plates of eggs Benedict with a brown butter sabayon are followed by slow-braised beef cheeks with mashed potatoes and a rich jus.
