Grado

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

On the edge of Rio de Janeiro’s beautiful botanical gardens, Grado is one of the city’s top-rated Italian restaurants, with chef Nello Garaventa and his wife and restaurant manager Lara Atamian at the helm. Fresh handmade pasta is the speciality here, with highlights including double ravioli with artichoke and fontina cheese on the excellent-value set menu of sourdough bread, starter, main and dessert. The restaurant also serves dishes such as goat’s cheese and beetroot from the wood-fired oven that serves as its central attraction. Set in a little house on a quiet street, Grado’s charming, cosy interior includes an open kitchen as well as quirky decoration and bookshelves curated by Atamian. The pretty outdoor courtyard is a great spot for a pre- or post-dinner glass of wine.
