Mee Restaurant

Rio de Janeiro, Brazil

Dubbed Rio's first pan-Asian restaurant and overseen by the inimitable Ken Hom, Restaurant Mee in the opulent Belmond Copacabana Palace hotel holds a Michelin star. The South East Asian whistle-stop tour provided by the menu is underpinned with rigorous training, with the brigade being dispatched to Bangkok to brush up their skills prior to the restaurant opening, which lends a real taste of authenticity to the dishes. There's a dedicated sushi bar where chefs prepare 16- or 19-course omakase, plus, a nine-course tasting menu alongside the à la carte offering where the origin of each dish is indicated by a jaunty flag illustration. When it comes to drinks there's a hefty wine list of Old World and New World bottles, plus a choice of sake and an array of expertly crafted cocktails.
