Fame Osteria

São Paulo, Brazil

In the early 20th century, São Paulo was known as 'the city of Italians' as expats from the south of Italy flocked to the New World hoping to fill jobs left empty by the abolition of slavery. Their food was considered unworthy of the well-born set, a far cry from today thanks to Fame Osteria. Behind a metal door with no sign (look for number 216) and up a dimly lit flight of stairs, you'll find some of the most hotly contested tables in town. Roman chef Marco Renzetti serves his 11-course tasting menu to a small selection of diners each night, dazzling them with classic Italian flavours seen through a rigorously modern lens. Erika Renzetti, Marco's wife, heads up a smooth, sophisticated front of house operation, lending an air of unfussiness to what is undoubtedly a special occasion restaurant. Dinner starts promptly at 8 pm for all guests.
