Tucked down a dimly lit street in Vancouver's historic Chinatown, Meo transports you to the illicit nightlife of 1970s Hong Kong. Inspired by photographer Greg Girard's photography from that era, the bar evokes an imaginary love motel: predominantly pink, draped in fabric and softened with carpet. A vintage jukebox anchors the room, whilst a curved banquette – the Honeymoon Suite – beckons. The cocktails capture the same spirit, updated: a sophisticated Sex on the Beach that uses shiso shochu, a savoury Blue Hawaiian with sancho pepper and salted cucumber, while the food leans towards retro indulgence with decadent classics such as foie gras and baba au rum.
