Pulpería Santa Elvira

Santiago, Chile

Right from its jaunty red and blue frontage, Pulpería Santa Elvira couldn't be any more joyful a dining experience. There's a real sense of place here and an appreciation of Chilean heritage: even the name is a nod to tradition, a tribute to classic Pulpería stores which would set up a couple of tables and chairs to serve lunch and dinner to locals. Serious attention is paid to sourcing local and ethical ingredients, but all are presented without ceremony and with one of the warmest welcomes you'll experience in this famously friendly city. The menu changes with the seasons – as you might expect – with past plates on offer including cream of clams with apricot bacon and pickled seaweed, an albacore pastrami topped with edible flowers and fermented sunflower seeds and mature cheese foam.
