Located in Nicolas Le Bec-trained chef Takao Takano’s adopted hometown of Lyon, Takano has been a hot ticket since its 2013 opening, offering a beautifully judged fusion of Japanese ambience and umami-rich French cuisine. The light, calm 30-cover dining room echoes the purity and simplicity of Takano’s cooking, which, while revered by gastronomes, represents great value – the ‘Envie’ lunch menu coming in at just less than $50. Representative is an artful starter of gnocchi and crab, served with courgette flower, beans, asparagus, broccoli and mountain herbs, in a lobster vinaigrette. The crowd-pleasing wine list is also well worth exploring.
