L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon

Paris, France

The industry is a less colourful place without the great Joël Robuchon, who sadly died in 2018. Thankfully for us, his restaurant empire lives on. L'Atelier de Joël Robuchon in the 7th Arrondissement was a forerunner in offering high-quality food in a sexy, clubby atmosphere. There are seats at the counter and an open kitchen to admire, in a room of black, red and shiny dark wood. Robuchon is the chef who first had the audacity to slap foie gras on a burger and mix Spanish dishes into his French-ish menu. For quirky twists on gourmet classics, this is the table to book. The Discovery tasting menu is a little more of a time commitment, with a series of decadent ingredients appearing over nine courses. Loosen your belt and settle in for the likes of caviar and crab with a gold leaf jelly; foie gras and green apple rolls in a hibiscus flower jus; lamb chops with a spicy aubergine condiment; and strawberries and cream, with an unusual spin.
