La Poule au Pot

Paris, France

La Poule au Pot is renowned for its reasonably priced yet gastronomically accomplished cuisine. Chef Jean-François Piège is the third owner of this Parisian institution, which has been serving classic French food for almost a century. Piège leans into the 'cuisine bourgeoise' that originated in the middle of the 19th century in France – cooking that's rooted in simplicity, fresh ingredients and comfort. The frogs' legs in parsley, old-fashioned veal blanquette and minced beef cheek come hotly recommended, while some tip the escargot as among the best to be had anywhere in the City of Light. But you don't just come here for the cooking, you come for the conviviality. Behind the red façade and the thick velvet curtains, candles flicker on tables, glassware and silverware glistens and the conversation flows. Vintage floral wallpaper, a tiled floor and wooden furniture add to the old-fashioned bistro cosiness.
