Gallina

Athens, Greece

Trying to find a good restaurant near a world famous tourist attraction isusually a tough ask. Luckily for those visiting the Acropolis (or, indeed, anyone who happens to be in Athens), Gallina is just a short walk away from the city’s most famous monument. After travelling the globe and working at three-Michelin-star restaurants such as Benu in San Francisco and Azurmendi in Bilbao, Chef Kyriakis has returned to Athens to cook up a mix of local, Mediterranean, and French dishes. Here he incorporates both traditional and modern cooking techniques that place his cuisine on the intersection of classic and contemporary.Everything is made from scratch in house – from butter and stocks to pasta, bread, ice cream, pickles and more – and a must order is the Gallina Signature Chicken, a whole chicken slowly cooked in a wood-fired rotisserie served with beurre blanc sauce and fresh truffle. Alternatively, the wagyu beef and Greek red shrimp tartare is a near daily sell out. On the walls are works by Greek artists and on the wine list, a 1,000 different bottles from all over the world.
