Hong Kong’s Bar Leone made 50 Best history in 2024 by being the first-ever establishment to debut on the list as No.1 and The Best Bar in Asia. The Hong Kong cocktail bar, owned and operated by Lorenzo Antinori, whose CV includes the acclaimed Argo and now defunct Dandelyan (The World’s Best Bar 2018), is the home of ‘cocktail popolari’, meaning ‘cocktails for the people’. Everything at Leone is about speed, consistency and approachability – the latter manifesting as exemplary twists on classic cocktails. The bar’s Bellini stays true to its original formula, but it’s meticulously built at the perfect temperature with the finest ingredients; and the Leone Martini (Italian gin, marsala wine, orange blossom water, garnished with an almond-stuffed olive) is served from a bottle chilled in the freezer, embodying Antinori’s obsessive attention to detail. Inspired by the bars of Rome’s Trastevere where Antinori grew up – the AS Roma football kits and other memorabilia on the wood-panelled walls are a giveaway – the atmosphere is relaxed but chic, making guests feel at home while enjoying a spread of outstanding drinks.
