Opened in 2021 by chef Hans Christian and restaurateur Budi Cahyadi, August has quickly risen to become one of Jakarta’s leading gastronomic stars. With just 50 seats and walls decorated with wooden furnishing and bookshelves filled with its owners’ favourite reads, it’s also one of Jakarta’s most warm and unpretentious venues. Leaving the pass is chef Christian’s 14-course tasting menu which travels across the thousands of islands that form Indonesia to create a whimsical and nostalgic selection of dishes from his past. Breakfast from Mom, a bite-sized homage to his favourite childhood breakfast of rice and lapcheong (Chinese cured sausage) omelette, is one of the many landmark dishes. The open kitchen and warm service make this a gastronomic destination for those in the market for a laid back, yet upscale dining exeperience.
