Liza Beirut
Beirut, Lebanon
Occupying a 19th-century former palace, Liza regularly graces lists of the world's most beautiful restaurants. Having originally found favour in Paris, Liza and Ziad Asseily's first outpost in their native Lebanon consists of four light-flooded, lofty-ceilinged rooms (Main room, Banana room, Money room, Building room) lavishly decorated in Idarica Gazzoni-designed wallpapers, Levantine tiles, Moorish mirrors, carved wooden furniture and golden lanterns. Or eat al fresco beneath striped parasols to the sound of tinkling water features. Either way, the a la carte and set menus are as Instagramable as the decor: refined mezze dishes and seasonal grilled specials are light and fresh, with subtle enhancements made to traditional recipes. The Five Spices Kharouf – lamb with rice, almonds, pistachios and raisins – is a fan favourite.
