Terumi

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia

Finding beauty in simplicity, the team at Terumi – led by bartender and owner Shirmy Chan – have created a space worthy of their description of it as “the tender bar”. The interior of this Taman Paramount venue reflects this, with an elegant, minimalist sensibility throughout, and extends even to the bar’s social media, sometimes reminding followers to take a moment to be mindful. The drinks, which showcase Malaysian flavours, span both classic cocktails and signature creations, with the latter including drinks such as the Nigai, consisting of London dry gin infused with bitter gourd, Lillet Blanc and osmanthus honey jelly. In keeping with the ethos of the bar, there’s an excellent non-alcoholic cocktail section, with the Dokidoki featuring pomegranate, raspberry, vinegar, salted caramel, tonic and foam. The two parts of the bar’s name mean ‘brightness’ and ‘beauty’, respectively, while in kanji Terumi is the name of Chan’s father.
