Villa Torél
Ensenada, Mexico
- No.16 Latin America's 50 Best Restaurants 2025
Offering alfresco dining (the dining area is entirely outdoors) in one of the most breath-taking spots in the Valle de Guadalupe is Villa Torél. As the restaurant of pioneering Baja California winery Santo Tomás, diners can bask under the sun among citrus trees before giant wooden barrels that double as patio tables. Counting surrounding orchards, ranches and fishermen among his suppliers, Monterrey-born chef Alfredo Villanueva’s focus is on creating simple, beautiful and delicious plates, which are notable for their lack of pretension. Starter options include pickled mussels, grilled oysters, and a roasted carrot with duck jus and brown butter, while mains include crunchy pork in green sauce, ayocaotes, zucchini and corn and the signature Carne Asada – an 800g ribeye steak served with grilled vegetables and quesadillas. Conditions here are ideal for growing outstanding varietals of red wine grapes, so be sure to order a glass (or bottle) of the award-winning estate’s excellent merlot or ruby cabernet sauvignon.
