Graham's Port Lodge
Douro Valley, Portugal
Founded in 1820, the family-owned Graham’s isn’t just a trusted name in the world of Port but, as pioneers of owning one’s own vineyards, has boosted quality across the generations. Its Vila Nova de Gaia lodge was built in 1890, the cellars still housing the fortified wines in barrels while they age, so a guided tour is a lesson in Port production past and present. Tastings can be up overlooking the Douro River or lounging in the Vintage Room, whilst dining looks down onto the 3,200-strong barrel collection from the stylish Vinum wine bar and restaurant – food is a Portuguese-Basque fusion with the full range of wines on offer, plus more from local friends.
