When the Museum of Islamic Art opened in 2008, designed by the Pritzker Prize-winning, Chinese-American architect I.M.Pei, it was universally admired. Inside, masterpieces across metalwork, ceramics, woodwork, textiles and precious stones dazzle and delight. Idam, meaning 'generosity' in Arabic, is another jewel in the museum's crown. Alain Ducasse's first foray in the region is set on the fifth floor, the dazzling Philippe Starck-designed dining room boasting a luxurious black carpet embellished with white calligraphy, bespoke lighting and Baccarat crystal, along with breath-taking views of the Doha skyline. The set ten-course menu, which comes with mocktail pairings, is a seamless interweaving of French and Arabic influence. Dishes such as confit beetroot, crème fraîche and pike roe; monkfish, foie gras, salmon roe and kombu vinaigrette; and seared saddle of venison aside confit shallot and camel bacon reflect the kitchen's artistic brilliance.
