Gong-Gan

Seoul, South Korea

Experience Seoul’s fascinating interplay of old and new at Gong-Gan, set in a traditional hanok (Korean house) and embellished with dazzling modern design features. The centrepiece of the light-filled interior is the leafy central courtyard; milk-white hues, wooden furniture and natural accents combine to create a calming feel. Cocktails are inspired by the team’s childhood memories, from the Si-Jang, which is an ode to trips to the local food market and its snacks and smells, to the Azalea: a liquid recollection of extracting honey from flowers in a blossoming garden. This personal sense of reverence and respect for ingredients is evident in the bar’s eco-conscious philosophy; the team has an ‘upcycling cocktails’ approach, using any leftover ingredients within bar snacks. Gong-gan is also rooted in community, donating to the underprivileged and organising events for people with disabilities, in partnership with local restaurants. Dog-owners will be pleased to hear that the bar is a pet-friendly space.
