Dos Palillos
Barcelona, Spain
Where Spain and Asia come together via the chopstick. Dos Palillos ('two chopsticks' in Spanish) is tapas inspired by Japanese, Chinese and Southeast Asian cuisine. There's an a la carte menu available at the no-reservations Sake Bar, but the best bet is to opt for one of chef and co-owner Albert Raurich's tasting menus. The multi-course journeys work through everything from black truffle mochi to red prawn sushi to wagyu beef terimochi to sake poached pears. You can eat at the 20-seat Japanese-style bar, where you get a front row view of the theatrics of the kitchen and the chefs will serve you themselves; or there is a private room with a large table for groups and the shady terrace which has its own menu. Legendary Spanish chef Ferran Adrià has called it "the most important Asian restaurant outside of Asia" – for good reason.
