Meylas
Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates
As one of the UAE’S first food trucks, Meylas has made a name for itself as the place where heritage cuisine and modern hospitality collide. The brainchild of young Emirati Shaikha Al Kaabi, you’ll find this convivial spot – now bricks and mortar – in the heart of Abu Dhabi’s Al Raha Beach development, serving an all-day menu grounded by local ingredients and hand-me-down recipes. Contemporary-cool interiors harness ever-on-trend reclaimed styling: think seating areas swaddled with burlap sacks, raw ironwork and pantry goods haphazardly (or not) placed in upcylced shelving units. Alongside cult-status orders like chbaab pancakes with honey, date syrup and cheese, emblematic dishes include machboos – Arabic chicken and rice laced with fragrant spice – and salonat bedu, a modern take on Bedouin lamb stew that’s heavy on the marrow and is nuanced and hearty in equal measures. For added authenticity, follow it up with a glass of warm haleeb boosh – camel milk and honey.
