The Hind's Head
Bray, UK
Just moments from The Fat Duck (The World's Best Restaurant in 2005), The Hind's Head is a more laid-back gastropub from eccentric chef Heston Blumenthal. In a restored 15th-century building full of low beams and characterful crannies, the kitchen serves hearty British classics – think pea, mint and ham hock soup, shepherd's pie, oxtail and kidney pudding, and triple-cooked chips and fish. But this being Heston, expect inventive twists alongside the comfort food: lapsang souchong tea-smoked salmon, a truffle with grilled campaillou, or a chocolate wine slush with Mayan red millionaire shortbread for dessert. Alongside the a la carte, a three-course Sunday roast menu, a playful Chippy Tea menu and a children's menu are available – making this pub a welcoming option for all occasions and families too.
