Lisboeta

London, UK

A three-floored, open-all-day culinary love letter to Lisbon located in a stately London townhouse. Chef patron Nuno Mendes’ – formerly of celebrity favourite Chiltern Firehouse and owner of a number of Portugal-based establishment – takes inspiration from his hometown's stories, flavours and producers to offer a deeply personal dining experience. Diners choose between seating at a sweeping limestone counter on the ground floor or in a verdant and airy upstairs dining space. On the menu? Small plate pesticos borrowed from the Portuguese city’s cookbook: soft azeitão sheep’s cheese, garlicky stuffed chestnut mushrooms and chouriço and cuttlefish skewers, for example. Then, there’s sharing dishes reminiscent of Lisbon’s “tasca” restaurants – cardinal red prawns appear on top of a signature arroz de marisco while Bacalhau confit cod sits over shoestring fires. Still larger plates of grilled piri-piri halibut and lobster cataplana serve up to three while a specials board offers traditional light bites like bifana pork sandwiches. The wine list is strictly Portuguese.
