A tropical oasis beneath the streets of Smithfield Market, this London speakeasy transports drinkers to far-away lands. The walls are decorated with murals of exotic plants and birds in flight (the Oriole, like its Shoreditch-based subterranean sister bar Nightjar, is named after a breed of bird). Curios from Africa, Asia and the Americas that wouldn’t look out of place in the British Museum adorn glass cases. Nightly live music – from New Orleans’ jazz to swing and ‘50s R&B – provides the soundtrack. And, last but definitely not least, the inventive cocktails are a journey around the globe, with the menu broken into three sections (Old World, The Orient and New World).
