Everything about this Detroit restaurant speaks of a good time. The interior, a banquette lining one side of the room, a counter and open-concept kitchen along the other, is cosy-casual. You’ll feel at ease immediately, especially with a craft cocktail on its way. At the epicentre is chef-owner James Rigato, who is still as hands-on as he was when the restaurant opened in 2015. The tasting menu, which is handwritten, is forever changing and you’ll get no clue from the website – turn up and you’ll be served dishes made from scratch with whatever was at the market that morning, alongside fresh Michigan produce from farms, butchers and foragers. Rigato and his team switch things up further by regularly travelling the globe for culinary inspo, incorporating their newfound knowledge into the adventurous dishes. There’s now a private dining room, as well as a wine cave.
